It has been a really busy first month for Katie Yates Design! Wedding invitations, event fliers, and pricing guides have been created - all while juggling life's little surprises. After many hours (and eye drops! Have to get used to staring at a screen all day again...) some fun new creations to add to my design library have emerged.

Here is one of my most exciting new creations - a portrait pricing guide for Take 5 Photography. Missy and I worked closely to create a design that is both creative and functional. As a photographer's pricing guide, the images are just as (if not more!) important than the actual prices. She had a lot of great images to choose from, but I think we did a good job with finding a variety that showcases her talents. I'm now in the process of creating her wedding guide and will post that as well, once I'm finished.

Non-wedding templates

Here are some design templates that are NOT for weddings. Instead, these are for parties, formal gatherings, announcing a new baby, etc.

Here is another example of my work, this time it is the wedding invitation I made for two more of my dear friends getting married this summer, Kevin and Tina. It looks like they have decided on the design to the right. (I named this design, most appropriately, the "McCormick Stripe"). The two now only have to determine whether the background will be white like the one here, or red... Tough decision! I love her colors - red and black is so classy and romantic.

Here is an example of how I can customize for specific customers - the size, colors, and fonts have changed from the "McCormick
Stripe" to the right to the one below.

I had also created a couple of extra designs for Kevin and Tina, so they could choose from a few examples (my template library is small but growing larger every day). Here is another design they chose not to go with (but could be perfect for another couple)! This one is called "Simply Ornamental" and is a 9x4.

With these examples, I hope people can see what I plan on offering with Katie Yates Design. Any sizes, fonts, colors, etc. - just pick a basic template and add your own style to make it unique!

This is my first official post on my brand new business blog...where should I begin? I guess the best place to start is to tell you a bit about Katie Yates Design. I have recently decided to start up my own company in response to the ridiculously and painfully sparse job market in my area (Central Oregon). After months of searching (fruitlessly) for a graphic design position within a local company, I thought to myself (with a little prodding from my dear husband), "Why not start my own?" This way, I can do the design projects I LOVE (invites, stationary, greeting cards) as well as contract work for businesses in the area as needed.

I will be offering print-your-own invitations (wedding, baby showers, new baby, misc. parties) and personal stationery, or I can have any of the aforementioned printed and shipped right to you. Everything I do is customizable to the customer's particular needs, and am even willing to create new designs for individuals. I will of course have multiple templates to choose from, but will be flexible in color, wording, fonts and size.

I am lucky to have a sister who has been successful in starting up her own photography business and will be using a lot of her photos in my templates. Her company is Take 5 Photography and her website is take5photography.com. She is amazing and I'm so happy for her success! If I have half of her success I will be a very content businesswoman.

This is the wedding invite for two of my closest friends, Tim and Katie. They are getting married this summer at Whidbey Island (thus the beach-y theme). Katie wanted something simple, yet unique. We decided on this design after looking at just a couple of different examples I had made.

I am currently working on finishing out her wedding package with a map/accommodations card, and a RSVP postcard. Once I have finished these I'll post them all together.
